Antoinette Brown (b. 1986) is a British artist working with the human condition and the cyclical nature of life. Her practice encompasses drawing, painting and sculpture, sensitively pulling together compositions that embolden the quiet and insignificant moments of life.

She is a graduate of Wimbledon College of Art (2005-2008) and has worked on various collaborative projects with institutions such as Goldsmiths and Warwick University. In 2016, her work with the Sociology research department at Goldsmiths University was a chance to create reflective works on migration which became a catalyst for viewer introspection, inviting viewers to contemplate the intricate interplay of the precariousness of life and our place in the world.

Antoinette states 'Everything perceived is light; it delicately and relentlessly touches the observer. Mere shadows, fleeting and gone in the blink of an eye, they exist as integral parts of an eternal process called nature. Lives intertwine and interconnect, forming a progressive, evolving tapestry'.

These contemplations delve into the delicate fabric of life, exploring the cyclical passage of time and, most recently, the irreplaceable moments of motherhood.

Her practice turned a pivotal point after the birth of her second daughter in 2020.  Also, the decline of her grandmother's health shortly afterwards, fuelled a sense of urgency and newfound relevance. Her drawings and paintings place particular emphasis on the profound and transformative journey of motherhood. Drawing from her own personal experiences with her daughters and her connection to her own mother and grandmother; these experiences sparked internal dialogues about interdependent female relationships. Life itself hangs on a precipice of fragility, and the quiet, seemingly insignificant moments of motherhood gain immense significance as time passes and children grow. They evoke a sense of awe, compelling us to cherish each moment with renewed urgency.

Antoinette's work serves as a gentle reminder of interconnectedness, encouraging a deep appreciation for the delicate nature of existence and the profound significance of every fleeting moment.
